The two Victorian bedrooms have high ceilings with painted pitch-pine
beams and the large stone-mullioned bay windows allow wonderful views
of the surrounding fells. Both rooms have four-poster beds and have
en-suite bathrooms.
No.1 - Mistress Whaley's Room
This large Victorian Gothic room has an enormous, stone-mullioned,
bay window looking North to Stag Fell across the garden with its Monkey
Puzzle (Chili Pine) and Spanish Chestnut specimen trees.
The arch to the bay window and the corbles, which support the painted
pitch-pine beams in the ceiling, are the original Victorian dressed
and carved stonework.
The bed is a brass four poster.
No. 2 - 'The Masters' Room
This room is the same shape and size as Mistress Whaleys' next door
but its enormous bay window faces East to the morning sun, overlooking
the village of Gayle.
The wood and stonework details are the same as next door, with the
addition of a typical Victorian sentiment carved into the mantel of
the fireplace surround - "Lord, keep my memory green".
The king-sized bed is a mahogany four poster.
